TLDR: I’ve been seeing some beautiful makeup trends this fall, and I’m excited to share a few of my favorites. From soft, flattering blushes to statement lips, there are some lovely ways to freshen up your look this season. And of course, I’ve included a few tips to help you make these trends your own.
Every season, there are new makeup trends and products popping up on Instagram. And yes, they’re fun. And yes, I’m here for it! There are a few trends that have caught my eye this fall, and I’m excited to share them with you.
But don’t worry, this isn’t another article telling you to buy this or buy that. You don’t need to try every trend or replace everything in your makeup bag. At The Honest Image, I’m not interested in making you look like someone else. I want your makeup to work for your face, your coloring, and your lifestyle while still feeling like you. So let’s explore a few fall makeup trends that can help you look fresh, current, and still like yourself.
A new season is a wonderful opportunity to take another look at your makeup routine. Maybe the colors you’ve been wearing for years still work beautifully, or maybe a few small changes could make everything feel a little fresher. Here are a few fall makeup trends I’m loving and how you can make them work for you.
Heavy, full-coverage foundation is taking a back seat this season. The goal is a fresh, natural-looking complexion with a little glow. Think lightweight foundation, natural skin texture, and just enough coverage to even things out without hiding your skin completely. It’s a beautiful way to look polished without looking overly made up.
Tips: Instead of covering your entire face with a lot of foundation, use it where you need it and let some of your natural skin show through. This can be especially flattering for mature skin, since too much foundation can settle into fine lines and texture. If you’re looking for something lightweight with buildable coverage, Glo Skin Beauty’s Luminous Liquid Foundation is a lovely option to try.

A beautiful flush of color can instantly make the face look more awake and healthy. This fall, we’re seeing blush worn in a variety of ways, from soft and natural to a little more noticeable. Whether it’s a subtle wash of color or a more noticeable pop of pink, blush is a lovely way to bring warmth and freshness to your face.
Tips: One simple adjustment I love is moving your blush slightly higher on the cheekbones and blending it outward for a lovely, lifted effect. And don’t be afraid of color! Try a flattering shade of rose, berry, peach, or coral in a Mineral Blush, or reach for a Cream Blush Stick if you prefer a fresh, dewy finish.

This is one of my favorite ways to update an everyday makeup routine. If black eyeliner feels a little harsh, try brown. Chocolate, espresso, bronze, and deep brown shades give you definition without looking quite as strong as black. A softer line can give you softer eyes. It’s a simple change that can make your everyday makeup feel a little more current without losing the definition you love.
Tips: Try applying brown eyeliner close to your upper lash line and gently blending it to soften the edges. You can still define your eyes; you just don’t have to draw such a hard line! And remember, choose a brown shade that works with your natural coloring.
Fall is always a wonderful time to play with lipstick. Berry, plum, rose, brick, and classic red are beautiful choices as we move into the cooler months and the holiday season. A beautiful lip color can instantly brighten your face and add a little personality to even the simplest makeup look. And with the holidays just around the corner, it’s a wonderful excuse to experiment with something a little different.
Tips: One of my favorite looks is a softly defined eye with a beautiful statement lip. It looks polished without looking overdone. If you’ve been wearing the same neutral lipstick for years, why not try something a little richer? There are so many beautiful fall lip colors to explore, and Glo Skin Beauty’s Satin Lipstick is a lovely place to start.

I’m also loving the move toward eyes that are defined but not overly done. Think softly blended shadows, subtle liner, and beautiful lashes rather than a heavily sculpted eye. The idea is to bring attention to your eyes without making the makeup itself the center of attention. It’s a softer, more wearable approach that works beautifully for everyday makeup.
Tips: Try a neutral shadow through the crease, a slightly deeper shade along the lash line, and a little mascara. And if your eyelids have changed over the years, don’t assume the techniques that worked for you at 30 will work exactly the same way now. A small adjustment in placement or blending can make a beautiful difference.
Glow is still here, and I hope it stays! The goal is to look healthy and luminous, not sparkly. A touch of highlighter can bring a little light to the face and give your makeup a beautiful finishing touch. It’s about enhancing your natural features rather than creating an overly shimmery look.
Tips: A touch of highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones can catch the light beautifully without looking too shimmery. Try the Skin Glow Stick Highlighter or Glow Up Highlighter Stick for a little extra radiance. And remember, you don’t need shimmer everywhere to get that healthy-looking glow!

Here’s a little secret: not every makeup trend has to be for you. And that’s the beauty of it! You get to choose what works for you and what doesn’t. Maybe you love the idea of a statement lip but aren’t interested in changing your eyeliner. Maybe you want fresh, glowing skin but still prefer your full-coverage foundation. Or maybe a new lipstick shade is all you need to freshen up your look this fall.
Remember, makeup should be fun! You can try something new without feeling like you have to reinvent yourself. Because at the end of the day, the best makeup isn’t the kind that makes someone say, “Wow, look at her makeup.” It’s the kind that makes them notice you.
Not necessarily! You may find that your skin needs a little more moisture as the weather changes, but that doesn’t mean you need to replace everything. Start by looking at how your current products feel and wear on your skin. A small adjustment to your skincare or foundation routine may be all you need.
Possibly. If you’ve spent more time outdoors during the summer, your skin tone may become lighter as your tan fades. Check your foundation against your jawline in natural light to see whether it still blends with your skin. You may need a slightly different shade as the seasons change.
Start with skin that’s properly moisturized, use a primer that works with your skin type, and apply your makeup in light layers. A little setting powder where you need it can help, too. You don’t have to use more makeup to make it last longer.
It’s a good idea to check your makeup collection regularly. Mascara generally needs replacing about every three months, while many other products can last longer depending on their formula and how they’re stored. Always check the product’s expiration or period-after-opening symbol, and toss anything that changes in smell, texture, or appearance.

If you’ve been wearing the same makeup the same way for years, or you’re simply not sure what’s working anymore, I’d love to help. A Makeup Refresh at The Honest Image is a chance to look at what you’re currently using, learn a few updated techniques, and find the colors and products that make sense for you.
You don’t need a whole new face. You may just need a fresh way to see the one you already have. Let’s find the makeup that helps you look current, confident, and completely you.
Honestly beautiful, exquisitely you.
